A chess rating is a numerical representation of a player’s skill level. The most widely used rating system is the Elo rating system, named after its creator, Arpad Elo. Ratings increase or decrease based on game results against other rated players. Higher ratings indicate stronger players, with 2800+ typically considered elite.
