when saturated compounds are burnt in air,they give a clear(blue) flame but the burning of unsaturated compounds(alkenes and alkynes) gives a sooty (yellowish) flame.
Saturated hydrocarbons burn with a blue flame and unsaturated hydrocarbons burn with a sooty flame.
