In nutrition, “SFA” refers to Saturated Fatty Acids, which are a type of fat commonly found in both animal and some plant-based foods. These fats are typically solid at room temperature and are prevalent in items like red meat, butter, cheese, and coconut oil. While they can add flavor and texture to our meals, there’s been a lot of discussion about their impact on health. High consumption of saturated fats has been associated with increased levels of LDL cholesterol, often dubbed “bad” cholesterol, which can raise the risk of heart disease. Because of this, health experts generally advise limiting saturated fat intake to less than 10% of total daily calories. Balancing your diet with healthier fats, such as unsaturated fats found in fish, nuts, and olive oil, can contribute to better overall heart health.
