The company initially known as “Blue Ribbon Sports” is now Nike, Inc..
Nike was originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS).
The story of Nike starts before it was even called that, all the way back in 1964 when Phil Knight and his college track coach Bill Bowerman met for lunch. Knight had samples of Japanese running shoes that he wanted to sell in the United States, and he had sent them to Bowerman in the hopes he might make some sales, but mainly for his approval. Instead, he walked away with a business partner. Bowerman and Knight agreed to go fifty-fifty on Knight’s business, then called Blue Ribbon Sports. Twelve years later, this business would become Nike.
