The two main stages of photosynthesis are the light-dependent reactions, which occur in the thylakoid membranes of chloroplasts and involve the absorption of light energy to produce ATP and NADPH, and the light-independent reactions (Calvin cycle), which take place in the stroma of chloroplasts and involve the conversion of carbon dioxide into glucose using ATP and NADPH.
