What are the three main stages of cellular respiration, and where do they occur in the cell?
The three main stages of cellular respiration are:
* Glycolysis: Occurs in the cytoplasm, where glucose is broken down into pyruvate, producing a small amount of ATP and NADH.
* Krebs Cycle (Citric Acid Cycle): Occurs in the mitochondria, where acetyl-CoA is further broken down, producing ATP, NADH, and FADH2, and releasing carbon dioxide.
* Electron Transport Chain: Also takes place in the mitochondria, where NADH and FADH2 donate electrons to a series of proteins, leading to the production of a large amount of ATP and water as a byproduct.
