Algae have numerous economic uses across various industries. They are cultivated for food, particularly in Asian countries where seaweed is a staple ingredient in many dishes. Algae also serve as a source of nutritional supplements, such as spirulina and chlorella, which are rich in protein, vitamins, and antioxidants. In addition to food and supplements, algae are used in the production of biofuels, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and bioplastics. Certain species of algae are also employed in wastewater treatment and as bioindicators for monitoring environmental pollution.
