Nanomaterials are materials that have at least one external dimension that measures 100 nanometers or less, or have internal structures that measure 100 nanometers or less. A nanometer is one millionth of a millimeter, or about 100,000 times smaller than a sheet of paper. Nanomaterials can be in the form of particles, tubes, rods, or fibers. They can be made of any element and are often classified as organic, inorganic, or hybrid materials.
