Magnetite is an ore of iron whose chemical formula is F e 3 O 4 or F e 2 + F e 2 3 + O 4 2 − . It contains ferrous ion along with ferric ion. It can be seen that there are three atoms of Fe (Iron) and four atoms of oxygen present in it. It may broadly be used in the manufacturing of steel.
