The Ganga has two main headstreams-Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. The Bhagirathi rises in Gangotri glacier in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The Bhagirathi flows through central and lesser Himalayas and meets Alaknanda at Devprayag. Alaknanda originates in Satopanth Glacier above Badrinath.
