Megaloblastic anemia occurs when there’s a deficiency in vitamin B9 which is essential for DNA synthesis and red blood cell production. Without enough of these vitamins, red blood cells become larger than normal (megaloblastic) and unable to function properly, leading to anemia. The body needs these vitamins to produce mature red blood cells, and without them, the red blood cells are unable to divide properly, resulting in larger, immature cells.
