The ‘Alipore Bomb Case’ was “the first state trial of any
magnitude in India”. Khudiram, along with Prafulla
Chaki, attempted to assassinate a British judge, Magistrate
Kingsford, by throwing bombs in the carriage they
suspected the man was in. Magistrate Kingsford, however,
was seated in a different carriage, resulting in the deaths
of two British women.
