Jio has prioritized scale through JioFibre and AirFiber, expanding quickly using fixed wireless access at lower cost.
Airtel plays a different game — it consistently earns more per user, with Airtel’s ARPU at Rs 264, significantly ahead of Jio’s Rs 215.6. Rather than chasing raw subscriber numbers, Airtel focuses on network quality, fibre-led broadband, and a premium user experience, staying fibre-first through Xstream Fibre and using wireless access only as a supplement.
Interestingly, Jio users consume the most data at 43.7 GB monthly, compared to Airtel’s 34.4 GB, suggesting Jio’s ecosystem may be driving heavier day-to-day engagement, even if Airtel extracts more revenue per user.
