Pilates can be a useful complementary activity for people who enjoy skiing or snowboarding. These activities require balance, lower-body strength, coordination, and control. Pilates exercises can work on many of these physical qualities while also encouraging awareness of posture and alignment. A consistent routine may help you develop greater control over your movements outside the studio as well. However, Pilates should be considered part of an overall fitness program rather than a replacement for sport-specific preparation. Skiers and snowboarders can benefit from combining appropriate strength, cardiovascular conditioning, mobility work, and technique practice with Pilates.
