Both dates are actually correct, which is why there’s confusion. 30 January is observed as Shaheed Diwas for Mahatma Gandhi, marking the day he was assassinated in 1948. On the other hand, 23 March is also called Shaheed Diwas to remember Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, who were executed by the British in 1931. So it’s not one fixed date. India observes it on multiple occasions depending on which martyr is being remembered. People usually mean 23 March in popular discussions, but officially both days hold importance.
