Symantec’s consumer antivirus and data management utilities are still marketed under the Norton name. In early 1991, Symantec’s Norton Group launched Norton AntiVirus 1.0 for PC and compatible computers.
Norton AntiVirus was first released in 1991. Here are some other key milestones in the history of Norton products:
1989: Symantec began developing a DOS-based antivirus program.
1990: Symantec released Symantec Antivirus for Macintosh (SAM).
2007: Norton released the original edition of Norton 360, which included an antivirus program, personal firewall, and phishing protection.
2019: Symantec was renamed to NortonLifeLock and the Norton 360 brand was reintroduced. The new Norton 360 included privacy features like a virtual private network (VPN) and identity theft protection services.
