In India, a State Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) must meet at least twice a year, and there can’t be a gap of more than six months between two sessions (as per the Constitution).
In practice, most states follow a three-session pattern:
• Budget Session – usually February to April (this is the longest and most important one)
• Monsoon Session – around July to September
• Winter Session – typically November to December
Exact dates vary by state and political circumstances, but this Feb–July–Nov cycle is the standard rhythm across the country.
The General Assembly meets once a year in a regular session that starts in September, and special sessions can be convened as needed.
