Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure used to treat hair loss. Here’s how it generally works:

    1. **Evaluation and Planning:**
    – Before the procedure, the surgeon evaluates the patient’s hair loss pattern, donor hair availability (usually from the back and sides of the scalp), and discusses expectations and goals.

    2. **Preparation:**
    – On the day of the procedure, the patient’s scalp is usually cleaned and numbed with local anesthesia to minimize discomfort.

    3. **Harvesting Donor Hair:**
    – There are two main methods for harvesting donor hair:
    – **Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT):** A strip of scalp containing hair follicles is surgically removed from the donor area. The wound is then closed with stitches.
    – **Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE):** Individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area using a small punch tool. This method leaves tiny dot scars that are less noticeable than those from FUT.

    4. **Preparation of Grafts:**
    – Once the donor hair is harvested, the surgical team prepares the grafts (hair follicles) for transplantation. Each graft typically contains one to several hairs.

    5. **Recipient Site Preparation:**
    – The surgeon creates tiny slits or holes in the recipient area (balding or thinning area of the scalp) where the grafts will be implanted. The angle, depth, and distribution of these slits are crucial to achieve a natural-looking result.

    6. **Graft Placement:**
    – The prepared grafts are carefully placed into the recipient slits one by one. This process requires precision to ensure that the hair grows in a natural direction and pattern.

    7. **Postoperative Care:**
    – After the procedure, the patient may have some soreness, swelling, or redness in both the donor and recipient areas. Pain medications and antibiotics may be prescribed to manage discomfort and prevent infection.
    – Over the following weeks, the transplanted hair will shed (this is normal), and new hair growth should gradually appear within a few months.

    8. **Follow-up:**
    – Patients typically have follow-up appointments to monitor progress and ensure proper healing. Hair transplant results are usually fully visible within 6-12 months, with continued improvement over time.

Hair transplantation can be an effective and permanent solution for restoring hair in people with pattern baldness or certain types of hair loss. Success depends on factors like the patient’s hair quality, the skill of the surgeon, and following postoperative care instructions carefully.
