Deforestation reduces vegetation that stabilizes soil and absorbs rainfall. Without trees and roots to hold the soil in place, the risk of landslides increases. Additionally, the loss of vegetation leads to reduced water absorption, which can result in increased runoff and higher risks of flooding.
