Echolocation involves emitting sound waves and listening for their echoes to determine the location and distance of objects. Animals like bats and dolphins use this method to navigate and hunt in the dark or murky waters. They emit high-frequency sounds that bounce off objects, and by analyzing the returning echoes, they can create a mental map of their surroundings.
