Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-China border in Himachal Pradesh, is approximately 250 kilometers from Shimla. The most common way to travel there is by road. By road, you can take the National Highway 5 (NH5) or the Shimla-Sangla-Chitkul Road, which offers a scenic drive of around 8 to 9 hours by car or bus, depending on traffic and road conditions. Alternatively, you can opt for a private taxi service or shared jeep service from Shimla to Sangla Valley, followed by a short drive to Chitkul, which takes approximately 10 to 12 hours in total. Both road options provide easy access to Chitkul’s pristine landscapes, traditional Kinnauri architecture, and cultural heritage, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.
