A load cell operates on the principle of converting mechanical force or weight into an electrical signal. This is achieved through strain gauges arranged in a Wheatstone bridge configuration. When force is applied, the strain gauges deform, causing an imbalance in the bridge and resulting in a differential voltage output. This output voltage is proportional to the applied force and requires amplification and conditioning for further processing.
