No, you do not need to be flexible before beginning Pilates. In fact, improving mobility and becoming more comfortable with movement can be part of your reason for starting. Beginners often have different levels of flexibility, and exercises can usually be adapted accordingly. Pilates is not about forcing your body into extreme positions or trying to copy someone else’s range of motion. The focus is on controlled and comfortable movement. With regular practice, you may gradually become more aware of your body’s limitations and develop greater ease in certain movements. Patience is important because flexibility and mobility improvements can take time.
