Kiwifruit, originally known as Chinese gooseberry, is native to China and was first cultivated in the Chang Kiang Valley over 700 years ago. In the early 20th century, seeds were brought to New Zealand by missionaries, where they were cultivated and renamed “kiwifruit” in honor of the kiwi bird, which is native to New Zealand. The fruit gained popularity in New Zealand and was later introduced to other countries, including Italy, Chile, and the United States, where it became a commercial success due to its unique flavor, nutritional value, and vibrant green color.
