Feedback mechanisms in climate change can both amplify and mitigate the effects of global warming. Positive feedbacks, like the ice-albedo effect (where melting ice reduces the Earth’s reflectivity, increasing absorption of solar radiation and further warming) and the release of methane from thawing permafrost, accelerate warming. Negative feedbacks, such as increased plant growth due to higher CO2 levels, which can absorb more CO2, potentially mitigate some effects of warming. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for accurate climate modeling and policy development.
