The term “LBW” or Leg Before Wicket is associated with cricket. It is one of the most common ways a batsman can be dismissed. If a ball bowled by the bowler hits any part of the batsman’s body (except the hand holding the bat) and would have gone on to hit the stumps, the fielding team can appeal to the umpire. The umpire then decides whether the batsman is out based on where the ball pitched, whether it would have hit the stumps, the ball’s path after hitting the batsman, and whether the batsman was trying to hit the ball.

Myopia or nearsightedness is a vision condition in which we can see close objects clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred.

Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved. As a result, the light entering the eye isn’t focused correctly, and the image of the distant object is formed in front of the retina.

People who spend considerable time reading, working at a computer, playing video games or doing other intense close visual work may be more likely to develop myopia.

This defect can be corrected by using spectacles with concave lens of suitable focal length or power. Other treatment options are contact lenses, multifocal lenses, atropine drops, orthokeratology, refractive surgery, and LASIK.

A glass of water contains zero calories. Water is 100% calorie-free because it is composed only of two elements namely hydrogen and oxygen. The absence of carbon inhibits the property of water acting as fuel and a source of energy.

Why does a hydrogen balloon rise in air?

    Bindu P
    Bindu P Knowledge Contributor
Added an answer on July 20, 2024 at 1:04 am

Hydrogen gas is lighter than air. Since the weight of the balloon is less than the weight of the air displaced by the balloon, there is an extra upthrust, and the balloon rises up.

Stars do not really twinkle, they just appear to twinkle when seen from the surface of Earth.

This is because of the atmospheric refraction of starlight . When starlight enters earth’s atmosphere, it is affected by winds in the atmosphere and by areas with different temperatures and densities. So the light gets refracted at different levels and the path of rays of light coming from the star goes on varying slightly.

The apparent position of the star fluctuates and the amount of starlight entering the eye flickers. Thus, the stars seem to twinkle.

Scattering of light is a phenomenon in which the light rays get deviated from its path on striking small objects like dust particles, gas molecules or air molecules having dimensions less compared to the wavelength of the light.

The red light has a longer wavelength and gets least scattered by the molecules present in the air. Thus, it covers the longest distance and reaches the earth’s surface during sunrise and sunset.

At noon, the sun is at the nearest point to earth. Hence all the colors get scattered almost equally and thus white light is seen.

The blue light scatters the most and is mostly removed, leaving the red light to reach our eyes.
