Barrackpore has a special place in India’s history during the British colonial era. It was here that Mangal Pandey revolted against the English starting the First War of Independence in 1857. This event led to a wider rebellion against the British rule.

It was also India’s first British cantonment, (site of the first British military barracks, established in 1772). It was the beginning of British military presence and control in the region.

Barrackpore lies just east of the Hooghly River, 15 miles (24 km) north of Kolkata. The name Barrackpore is probably derived from there having been troops stationed there—in barracks—since 1772.

There are nine players on a Baseball team.

The game is divided into nine innings, each divided into two halves. In the top half of the inning, the players of one team successively come to bat and attempt to score runs, while the other team plays in the field and attempts to stop the offensive team from scoring. In the bottom half, the teams swap places. The team with more runs at the end of nine innings is the winner of the game.

The game is played on a diamond-shaped playing field, the four corners of the diamond being formed by home plate, first basse, second base and third base. In the middle of the infield is the pitcher’s mound, where the pitcher stands to pitch the ball to the batter. The area beyond the infield, bordered by the first and third baselines, is called the outfield.

During an inning, the pitcher of the defensive team throws the ball toward member of the offensive team currently in batting position at home plate. The batter attempts to hit the ball with the bat to a location out of the reach of the defensive players in the field and run around the bases. If he is able to round the bases and return to home plate, he scores a run. But if the ball is caught, or can be thrown to first base before he arrives at the base, then the batter is out. A batter is also put out if he strikes out, or fails to hit the baseball three times after three good pitches. The offensive team’s time at bat is over when it gets three outs.

Amjad Khan played the role of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last ruler of Awadh in “Shatranj ke Khiladi”. This role was quite different from his more villainous portrayals like Gabbar Singh in Sholay.

Wajid Ali Shah is a patron of arts and culture. He is a devout Muslim but he dresses as Hindu Gods and dances with the dancers, puts kohl in his eyes, writes poetry and composes music in his Durbar- the kind hearted king practically does everything except administrative work which is left to his staff. He was more attracted to the game of chess.

The film portrays him as a tragic figure, caught between the decline of his kingdom and his own personal indulgences.

Amjad Khan’s performance in this film was highly praised for its subtlety and nuance, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Ibex are wild goats with cloven hoofs and very long horns that curve over their back. Males typically also have beards. The Alpine ibex is the most common type, and the Asiatic ibex is generally considered a subspecies.

The animal’s hooves are sharp with concave undersides to fit the curves of rocks, thus allowing them to climb sheer cliffs with a sense of support.

The Siberian ibex has the largest horns within the genus at 39-58 inches (100-148 cm).

Most males and females stay in gender-segregated herds for much of their lives.

Ibex herds stay close to “escape terrain” in tall cliffs.
As one of the main ancestors of the domestic goat, the ibex is a common sight in the mountains of Europe, western Asia, and northeastern Africa.

It is an ancient Indian language that is related to Magadhi, the language spoken in central India during the Buddha’s time.

The Pali Tipiṭaka, the earliest complete canon, was likely written down in Sri Lanka in the 1st century BCE. The canon was originally passed down orally and is thought to represent the words of the Buddha, who was born around the 6th–4th century BCE.

Pali is still the primary language of the Pali Canon and is also the sacred language of Theravāda Buddhism.
