Hair shedding is completely normal to some extent. Normally, an individual loses 50 to 100 hairs per day as part of the natural hair growth cycle. However, if there are large amounts of hair in the shower, on the pillow, or while brushing, it’s worth finding out what’s causing it.
Excessive hair shedding can occur due to various reason such as stress, illness, surgery, hormonal fluctuations, autoimmune reaction (alopecia areata), hereditary cause (androgenetic alopecia), or nutritional deficiencies (low iron, vitamin D, or protein). The occurrence of any of these causes hair loss. In many people, genetics is another common cause. Conditions like androgenetic alopecia gradually weaken hair follicles, resulting in finer hair.
