Mount Everest is called “Chomolungma” in Tibetan, which means “Goddess Mother of the World” or “Holy Mother.” The name reflects the mountain’s revered status in Tibetan culture and its spiritual significance in the local traditions and beliefs. The mountain’s official name in Nepali is “Sagarmatha,” and it was named Mount Everest in honor of Sir George Everest, a British surveyor general of India, in the 19th century.
