Yawning is believed to help regulate brain temperature and increase alertness by drawing in cool air. The contagious aspect of yawning is linked to social bonding and empathy; seeing someone yawn triggers an empathetic response in our brains, making us yawn too. It’s one of those weird little quirks of human behavior.
