Why do we sometimes get “pins and needles” when we sit or lie in one position for too long?
The “pins and needles” sensation, or paresthesia, occurs when pressure on nerves or blood vessels restricts blood flow and impairs nerve function. This pressure can compress nerves or reduce circulation. Once you change positions, blood flow, and nerve function are restored, and the tingling or prickling sensation occurs as normal sensation returns to the affected area.
