The author of the Sherlock Holmes stories is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He created the character of Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant detective, and wrote numerous short stories and novels featuring Holmes and his trusted friend and chronicler, Dr. John Watson. The first Sherlock Holmes story, “A Study in Scarlet,” was published in 1887.
