The aeroplane was invented by the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright. They achieved the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft on December 17, 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, USA. Their pioneering work in aviation made them the inventors of the first successful aeroplane.
