France is often referred to as “The Hexagon” due to its roughly hexagonal shape on the map.
The Hexagon” refers to France.
It’s called that because mainland France (in Europe) roughly looks like a six-sided shape on the map. If you look at it from above — bordered by Spain in the southwest, Italy in the southeast, Germany and Belgium to the northeast, and the Atlantic and Mediterranean on two sides — the outline forms something close to a hexagon.
