The “desert storm” innings by Sachin Tendulkar during the 1998 Coca-Cola Cup in Sharjah is the stuff of legend in cricketing folklore. In the backdrop of extreme desert heat and swirling sandstorms, Tendulkar played two extraordinary innings against Australia that left an indelible mark on cricket history. Despite suffering from severe dehydration, he showcased his mental fortitude and batting genius by scoring 143 in the first match and 134 in the final, single-handedly steering India to victory and earning him the title of the “Master of Sharjah.”
During the match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, a sandstorm hit and play was suspended for around 25 minutes. This not only made the target more challenging for India but also added to the drama of one of the most memorable innings in ODI cricket history.
