The power factor is a measure of how effectively the electrical power is being used. It is the ratio of real power (used to do work) to apparent power (total power within the circuit). A higher power factor indicates efficient use of electrical power, while a lower power factor signifies poor utilization of electrical power, often leading to higher energy costs and greater load on the electrical infrastructure.
