The purpose of a Delimitation Commission is to redraw the boundaries of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in India based on changes in population demographics. The commission is appointed by the President of India and consists of a chairperson who is or has been a judge of the Supreme Court or of a High Court and two other members, who are or have been, Chief Election Commissioners or Election Commissioners. The main objective of the Delimitation Commission is to ensure fair representation by allocating seats in proportion to the population of different regions, thereby upholding the principle of “one person, one vote” and promoting democratic representation.
