Answer: The process of turning a solid directly into a gas without passing through a liquid state is called sublimation. This process typically occurs when a solid is exposed to conditions of low pressure and relatively high temperatures. Examples of sublimation include dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) sublimating at atmospheric pressure, or mothballs slowly shrinking in size over time as they sublimate.
