The initiative by the African Union to overcome desertification is called the Great Green Wall.
The “Great Green Wall” is the initiative by African Union, launched in 2007 to increase the amount of arable land in the Sahel, the region bordering Africa’s Sahara Desert.
The GGW is implemented across 22 African countries and involves international partners. Some of the techniques used in the GGW include: planting trees and vegetation, using water conservation methods, and protecting existing natural vegetation.
