Communal Award and Poona Pact: The Communal Award, introduced on August 16, 1932, by the British colonial government under Ramsay MacDonald, was a policy designed to grant separate electorates to various religious and social communities in India, including the Dalits (then referred to as the “Depressed Classes”).
