According to Hindu mythology, Badrinath derives its name from the Badri tree (Indian mulberry), which is believed to have grown abundantly in the region. It is said that Lord Vishnu meditated under the shade of the Badri tree for thousands of years, earning the name Badrinath, which means “Lord of the Berry Tree.” The temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu at Badrinath is thus named after this sacred tree.
