Infrared (IR) wavelengths span a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that lies between visible light and microwaves, ranging from approximately 700 nanometers (nm) to 1 millimeter (mm). This spectrum is further divided into three regions: Near-Infrared (700 nm to 1,400 nm), Mid-Infrared (1,400 nm to 3,000 nm), and Far-Infrared (3,000 nm to 1 mm). Infrared radiation is primarily associated with heat, as many objects emit IR as a function of their temperature. This makes IR technology valuable in various applications, such as thermal imaging cameras, which detect heat patterns, and remote controls, which use IR signals to communicate with devices.
