The Sound Navigation and Ranging device (SONAR) is based on the principle of the echo-surrounding method of Ultrasonics. It is an acoustical technique in which a high frequency sound pulse is transmitted and then received after its reflection from objects like submarines.
Sonar stands for sound navigation and ranging. Sonar would be described as the method of estimating the distance as well as the orientation of underwater structures or entities using sound waves.
Categories of sonar
Sonar systems are divided into different categories, such as:
Active sonar: Sound waves have been created throughout this system in such a way that they propagate out and have been reflected by the target object. Such reflected signals were examined using a receiver.
Passive sonar: Only receivers were indeed employed to assess the reflected wave properties.
