Skin pigmentation is also referred to as hyperpigmentation, is the condition where some areas of the skin appear darker than other areas. This makes the skin appear with an uneven tone. The primary cause of skin pigmentation is excess accumulation of melanin at the site of darker appearing skin. Although skin pigmentation is not painful or itchy, it creates a psychological burden among individuals.
