Air mass theory
It is one modern theory that explains the mechanism of the monsoon.
In the summer the sun shines vertically over the Tropic of Cancer and the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) shifts northwards.
These displaced trade winds are called southwest monsoons when they blow over the Indian subcontinent.
