A blizzard is a severe weather event characterized by:
Heavy Snowfall: Significant accumulation of snow, typically at least 6 inches within 24 hours.
Strong Winds: Sustained winds of 35 mph (56 km/h) or greater, which can create low visibility conditions.
Low Visibility: Visibility reduced to less than a quarter of a mile (400 meters) due to snow and wind.
Necessary Conditions for a Blizzard:
Cold Air Mass: A source of cold air is essential to maintain freezing temperatures.
Moisture: Availability of moisture in the atmosphere, often from a low-pressure system.
Lift: Mechanisms such as fronts or terrain that help lift the moist air to form clouds and precipitation.
