The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris, France.
It was the world’s tallest building at the time, and it was built by Gustave Eiffel to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Its construction began on January 26, 1887 and the tower was completed on March 31, 1889, in a record time of 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days. The Eiffel Tower was made of 18,038 pieces of cast iron and 2,500,000 rivets.
