Leprophobia, also known as lepraphobia, is the fear of leprosy or fear of contracting leprosy. Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae. Leprophobia can manifest as an irrational fear of people with leprosy, fear of places where leprosy is more common, or fear of contracting the disease oneself. This phobia can lead to avoidance behaviors and significant anxiety when confronted with situations related to leprosy.
