Dermatosiophobia, also known as dermatophobia, is the irrational fear of skin diseases or skin lesions. People with this phobia may experience extreme anxiety at the thought of contracting a skin condition, and this can lead to behaviors such as excessive hand washing, avoiding contact with others, or constantly checking their skin for abnormalities. The term is derived from the Greek words “derma” meaning skin and “phobia” meaning fear.
