There are three main types of RNA involved in protein synthesis:
* mRNA (messenger RNA): Carries the genetic code from DNA in the nucleus to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm.
* tRNA (transfer RNA): Brings the appropriate amino acids to the ribosomes based on the sequence of codons in the mRNA.
* rRNA (ribosomal RNA): Combines with proteins to form ribosomes, where protein synthesis occurs.
